Student opportunities and activities

At Maitland Public School, we offer a variety of programs in the classroom and across the school to help students build new skills, make friends and explore new interests.

Our programs may include:

• school sport and inter-school competitions, including PSSA pathways
• opportunities for participation and success in athletics, swimming and cross country
• creative and performing arts groups and showcases such as Vocal Group, Dance Troupe, Star Struck, Youth Theatre Group, biennial whole school musical performance
• tuition and performances with our MPS school Band
• cultural and language activities, including our Aboriginal Dance Group

Our extra-curricular highlights

Debating and public speaking

Students can develop their thinking, communication and teamwork skills through debating and public speaking. They also have the chance to compete in local and state events such as the Public Speaking Competition at a school, zone and regional level, and the Premier's Debating Challenge.

Creative and performing arts

Our drama, dance, music and art programs help students be creative and express themselves. They can join in concerts, art shows and drama activities.

Trips and excursions

Our students enjoy getting out of the classroom to explore, learn and try new things. These experiences help them grow, build confidence and see how their learning connects to the world.

Special Events and Activities

Our students participate in a wealth of special events and activities to engage in learning and build relationships with our school community, such as our termly STEM days K-6 which build relationships with one of our local feeder high schools - Maitland Grossmann High School.
